Hand-raised and socialized at our home on Altiquin acreage: Altiquin Dogs in County Leitrim, Ireland is primarily interested in breeding to improve Labrador Retriever bloodlines for our own competitive trialing purposes in the UK and Ireland. For those outside of the Irish and British Isles, Altiquin Dogs willingly assists in importing our bloodlines into your country. Stylish
and athletic, each puppy is bred for health, intelligence, temperament,
honesty, keen noses and working ability. Although we would like to guaranteed our pups for hips, we cannot and refer you to the extensive medical literature on the subject: About Hips and More About Hips. More
specifically, we are referring to the unfortunate fact that 2 out of 10
puppies born of so called HD-free parents will develop hip dysplasia.
Even when using the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) method of
hip evaluation, sadly there is still a 20-25 percent chance of producing
a puppy with CHD (canine hip dysplasia). At Altiquin Dogs, it is health and bloodlines of proven field trialing quality, not quantity that matters. Read about a pup's life at Altiquin below.... |

Solo's 1st Litter : Arrived on Thurs./ 24 AUGUST 2006: Having had a very successful end of season with our FTCH ALTIQUIN EGAN - Jake (who as a 3-year-old qualified for the Irish Championship 2005), we decided to use this opportunity to blend Jake and Holly's daughter Solo, who was pick-of-the-litter out of Willowyck Ruff, and aptly named ALTIQUIN PRIDE. We
are very impressed and pleased with this litter and Solo's mothering
skills: 5 boys and 7 girls. All the same size: plump; and, ALL SHINY
BLACK. View

Gem's 1st Litter : Arrived on 5th AUGUST 2005: This year we chose Mr. Damian Newman's Irish FTCH MYRETON DIABLO of GLENLOCH as our stud. This stud is a tremendous game-finding dog. He won 1st Place in the 2004 Irish Retriever Championship. Retrospectively speaking, he continues to win... placing 3rd in the 2005 Irish Retriever Championship; and then once again, winning 1st Place in the 2006 Irish Retriever Championship. He truly is a GREAT dog. Gem, aka: ALTIQUIN BREEZE, is Holly's daughter and pick-of-the-litter out of GB FTCH Craighorn Bracken, Winner of the 2001 British Retriever Championship. Her temperament is superb. Supremely gentle and willing, as well as coming along well in her field training. She carries both Yellow and Fox Red. We
are pleased to announce 7 new Altiquin pups: 3 Males + 4 Bitches.

Holly's September 12, 2004 Litter: This
year we chose Tess Lawrence's FTCH WILLOWYCK RUFF as our stud. Not only
did he place 2nd in the British Championship 2003, he was also THE Top
Retriever for the following season (2004). We had 8 BLACKS. They were
all big, strong pups. Our camera jammed while filming this litter. We
have yet to recover the prints.
Pick
of this Litter is the bitch we call SOLO - ALTIQUIN PRIDE: The
pedigree of this litter is detailed in the WORD document: pedigree_solo_2004sept12.doc

printer-friendly version of ALTIQUIN PRIDE Pedigree. Holly's July 20, 2003 Litter: We
are so pleased with the retrieving ability of last year's pups that
we chose a "Repeat Mating" between FTCH Craighorn Bracken
and our Holly for our litter this year. And, what a grand outcome! We
have 7 YELLOWS and 3 BLACKS.
This
litter brings together strong 'line breeding' on both Pocklea Remus and
Ballyellery Adder lines. Both of these sires have produced some of the
very best working Labradors in recent times. From this litter, we have
kept 4 pups: DRUM, KATE, ROCK, and RED. They are the pick of the litter. Holly's
Litter from 2001: Elly's

Pup's Life at Altiquin Acres: back to annual litters Our pups experience a radio playing in their kennel for 8 hours every day to get them accustomed to the bustle of noise. Altiquin trainer, Paul David Toal, lounges with them every day and plays with them *as their eyes open* so that the second thing they see in life is a human: a human who handles each and every one of them individually and lovingly. Once the pups are on their feet *braving the world* they are fed outside our 200-year-old Irish cottage in order to accustom them to the sights and sounds there. Sound & gentle early education is essential in creating a superb hunting / trialing companion. As soon as their size permits, Altiquin pups enjoy frequent supervised excursions (about 3 times a day) into the grasses and fields of Altiquin for a playful romp and early non-structured orientation. Soon they will join the larger dogs for supervised exercise to facilitate the development of more advanced *social skills*. Our hills and slopes keep them all very fit and healthy as they race around with their pack.
Kindly contact the individual breeders DIRECTLY to inquire about these litters, the working abilities in the bloodlines, suitability as pets, etc..., and to purchase these pups. Disclaimer:
